ERIC BREISH

Born in Houston, TX in 1979, Eric Breish spent his childhood in various cities in Texas and Oklahoma. Upon graduating high school, Breish joined the US Marine Corps and moved to San Diego, CA in 1997. After being honorably discharged as a decorated Sergeant in 2001, he attended Full Sail University in Florida where he earned an A.S. degree in Recording Arts, a B.S. degree in Entertainment Business and graduated Salutatorian in 2005.

Breish, known for his abstract paintings on metal that create holographic illusions, engages the viewer in mesmerizing planes of light and color that constantly shift before the eye. Using a combination of tools and unique methods, each mark on the metal is strategically placed to absorb and reflect light, creating the dimensional effect that separates Breish’s work from traditional abstract paintings. Aluminum, copper and steel are the substrates on which he primarily works, while layered transparent paints and varnishes create a glass-like finish that enhances depth, dimension and color. For fifteen years, Breish has apprenticed under renowned artist and innovator of metal art, Andreas Nottebohm.

Breish is currently represented by galleries in various cities around the U.S. His work has been placed in private and public collections both internationally and domestically.

  • Eric Breish is best known for his abstract paintings on metal that present holographic images as the viewer moves around the work producing a different image from multiple vantage points. Rays of light appear to protrude from the flat surface as the colors shift and move in every direction . Breish uses industrial tools and unconventional methods to create paintings that engage both electrical and natural light to produce the mesmerizing effect. Each mark on the metal is strategically placed to absorb or reflect light creating the dimensional movement that separates Breish’s work from traditional abstract paintings. Aluminum, copper, or steel are used as the substrates for the paintings, while transparent inks, oils and varnishes layer the top creating a glass like finish that dramatically enhance the depth, dimension and color. His style is a juxtaposition between Op art and abstract expressionism. Breish also paints with traditional mediums and uses mixed media on canvas, metal and wood to create works that weave themselves into his unique style.
